Birp Cloths

Here is a very simple, yet fun project to do as a gift for an expecting mom! Birp cloths (...Spit up rags)!  

The only tools you will need is a sewing machine, pins, and something to cut your fabric with.  I love my cutting mat and rolly cutter (not sure of the official name for those, but that is what I call mine!) 

Head to the store for a package of cloth diapers and some fun fabric.  I like to buy receiving blankets on sale and use those, but any flanel type material will work nicely.

Cut your fabric a little longer than the diaper.  I give myself about 1 inch on each end.  For the width, see that strip in the middle of the cloth diaper that is thicker than the rest, cut your fabric so that you have about 1/2 an inch to fold over on either side. 

Next pin the fabric to the diaper.

Time to sew!  I like to use a medium zig-zag stiching.  Go all the way around the edge of the fabric.  On the ends you will go though three layers - fabric, diaper, and the fabric again.  This folding of fabric on the back side gives it a slightly "finished" appearance. 

Pull out your pins and iron the diaper and fabric.  Done!
